Anger Management: Have a Mantra

One way to manage anger is to have a phrase you repeat in times of stress or frustration. A mantra like this might allow you an opportunity to take a little break or even reflect and remind yourself what is important.

Be careful, though, that the mantra is authentic to you and isn’t minimizing of the anger. Stating things to yourself like “take it easy,” “relax,” or “anger isn’t the solution” might actually feel bad in the moment, because you are sending the message to yourself that your anger isn’t justified. Instead, try empowering mantras like “I can get through this,” “breath in calm and relaxing breath,” or “I can solve this.”
