Psych 300: Research Methods in Psychology

This is an undergraduate psychology course designed to provide students with knowledge about and hands-on practice with experimental research methods in psychology.  Students will learn how to plan, conduct, and analyze their own experimental research, and how to communicate the results of their research to others.  Students will develop the knowledge and skills to apply and critique the scientific method in future courses at UWGB and after.

Psych 424: Psychology of Emotion

This is an advanced undergraduate psychology course designed to expose students to the science of emotion.  Students will become acquainted with the many ways in which biological, cultural, cognitive, and other factors can contribute to our emotions.  The course will address emotional development in general as well as exploring, in depth, the four primary emotions of happiness, sadness, anxiety, and anger.

Psych 435: Abnormal Psychology

This is an advanced undergraduate psychology course designed to expose students to the primary models for defining and evaluating normal and abnormal human behavior.  Students will be acquainted with the many ways in which biological, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive factors can contribute to distress or impairment, both to the individual and the people around him or her.  Students will be exposed to models of how abnormal behavior can be defined, how it can be understood, and in a general sense, how it is usually treated.

Psych 494: All the Rage Capstone

This is an advanced interdisciplinary writing emphasis Psychology course designed to expose students to the science of anger and aggression.  Students will be acquainted with the literature on biological, cognitive, social, cultural, and behavioral causes and consequences of anger and aggression.  Students will also be exposed to how anger problems can be assessed and treated.  Finally, special topics of anger in children, driving anger, and the prediction of anger-related violence will be discussed.

Psych 198: On a Zombie Apocalypse (and other doomsday scenarios)

This is a first year seminar that explores the zombie genre of movies, books, television, etc. from an interdisciplinary perspective. In addition to discussing the history of the genre and the psychological attraction to such films, we’ll discuss the science behind the spread of illness, government response to outbreaks, approaches to doomsday preparation, survivor group dynamics and leadership, and a host of other relevant topics.
